Allington Morris is a small enthusiastic village side still dancing after more than 30 years. The side was formed in 1998 by members of the then Gala committee as an added attraction for Allington Gala. We were able to put together two dances for the event under the tuition of one of our members who had been a member of a Morris side in his youth – which was a very long time ago. Much to our astonishment we received an invitation to dance for another village fete and decided we should perhaps take this Morris lark a little more seriously and train a little harder. Members have moved on or retired since then but we remain a social side very much centred in the village practising at the Village Hall and gathering afterwards at the Welby Arms.
Our dancing season starts traditionally on May 1st outside the Welby and we enjoy dancing out with other sides over the summer at festivals days of dance local events and pubs around the area. We are an Open Morris (mixed) Side and our dances are from the Cotswold tradition.
New dancers and musicians are always welcome with or without experience. We practise on Thursday nights 8.15-9.45 in the Village Hall on Side Street and our practise season runs from September to the end of April. After that you will find us dancing out at local pubs on Thursday nights.
If you would like to come along and play or give dancing a go get in touch using the contact form on this page or by contacting Mary McKinlay Sec Allington Morris email firstname.lastname@example.org (link sends e-mail) or just come along on a Thursday evening but if coming a distance best to email first to check we are meeting. No special kit needed just a pair of trainers or comfortable shoes and most essential a sense of humour!
